Project Abstract

As nanotechnology develops and more nanotechnology enables products appear on the market environmental exposure to nanoparticles will increase. Due to their small size nanoparticles will certainly enter humans and indeed may even enter individual cells although their effects on cellular functioning are as yet unknown. This project will begin to address this question and generate data relating to the effect of nanoparticles on intra- and inter-cellular signalling pathways. The project will combine excellence in nanoparticle synthesis and characterization with state-of-the-art proteomics and transcriptomics to determine the effects of nanoparticles on the most complete range of biological processes yet explored.
