EPA Climate Change Lecture 5th November: Climate Change Now- The Impacts

Date released: Nov 04 2014

This week the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) launched the final part of its Fifth Assessment Report on climate change.  It presents some of the strongest evidence ever provided by the IPCC about the reality of climate change and the human influence in driving it.  It also outlines options and choices that can be made to avoid some of the most adverse impacts of climate change.

Dr Chris Field, one of the key authors of that report will present the next lecture in the EPA's climate change lecture series this week.   Dr Field is the Co-Chair of IPCC working group II which looked at the impacts of climate change and adaptation options and will talk about their findings.  The lecture takes place on Wednesday 5th November, in the Mansion House.

The lecture is entitled Climate Change Now – Impacts, Risks and Management Options. It will focus  the evidence of climate change impacts from global studies, projections of future impacts, the key reasons for concern that have been identified by the IPCC and options to reduce risks through adaptation.

Ms Laura Burke, EPA Director General, said:

“This lecture is very timely.  It comes just after the finalisation of the IPCC’s Fifth Assessment Report and provides an opportunity for the public to hear for themselves from one of the key authors of that report. This is the last lecture in our 2014 series in which participants will have heard from the key authors of the Fifth Assessment Report.”

The Climate Change lecture will be webcast from the Mansion House and can be watched live at http://bit.ly/EPAClimate.  On-line viewers can engage with comments or questions using #epaclimate, or via text or email.
