Project Abstract

A great mystery of science is why some animals can evolve and diversify quickly and some cannot. This is increasingly important in a changing world. A particular worry is how this change will impact species such as pollinators, which sustain the plants we depend on. Genomics (analysis of all DNA in a species) is an emerging field which provides cutting-edge insight into species' lives. In this project we will study a large group of pollinators, the Andrena bees, using genomics to understand; 1) how they diversified so rapidly and 2) how they adapt to the environment in a changing world.
