Project Abstract

VOCs represent a class of important indoor pollutants arising from sources including paints varnishes solvents preservatives as well as combustion. As many western workers can spend as little as 5%i-10% of their day outdoors i- exposure to indoor pollutants can have significant health impact and VOCs have has been linked with neurophysiological effects irritation to eyes upper/lower airway and pulmonary tract as well as pulmonary edema inflammation etc. Many VOCs are narcotics. This project seeks to develop a range of nanoengineered absorbents which can be used to lower the concentration of carbonyl VOCs for development in air-purification systems.
