Project Abstract

There is a lack of guidelines for management of biodiversity in urban areas in Ireland. The main aim for maintaining and enhancing biodiversity in urban areas is to allow the delivery of ecosystem services and biodiversity benefits to an urban population, who is increasingly detached from nature. A multi-disciplinary approach for drawing up such guidelines is therefore needed, as the sustainability of management will strongly depend on the ability to meet the needs of park users. In this project, we are proposing to take an integrated view from the development of a conceptual framework for management, through to the drafting of guidelines and the assessment of the implementation of such guidelines. Stakeholders and park users will be involved at every stage of the project. Project outcomes will be directly fed back to National Parks Professional network as well as to park users.
