Project Abstract
CLIMATUDE will deploy a programme of engaged research with Irish citizens to co-create a better understanding of Irish people’s attitudes, beliefs and values related to climate change and how these impact the actioning of effective climate change mitigation and adaptation projects in Ireland. The project will building on existing research and knowledge to examine the factors influencing citizens’ acceptance of climate science, their perceptions of risk and motivations for (in)action, while also identifying the key barriers to meaningful public participation. It will anlyse public perceptions and attitudes to specific mitigation and adaptation measures, including attitudes to the wider governance structures and decision-making processes. It will seek to develop an understanding of the role of recent online misinformation and disinformation campaigns in driving current anti-science narratives in Ireland. Finally it will identify appropriate strategies for promoting community engagement and participation in climate action initiatives, through a suite of participatory engagements (including workshops) examining best practice in local and national decision-making processes.
