Quarterly Greenhouse Gas Emissions Indicator Report 2026 Quarter 1
Summary: This is the latest EPA report on quarterly greenhouse gas emissions for Ireland, supporting more frequent monitoring of national and sectoral progress on climate action. This series complements the national greenhouse gas inventory and projections prepared annually by the EPA. Emissions in Quarter 1 2026 were down by 0.8% compared with the same quarter last year. This was mainly driven by decreases in the Transport sector (-72.1 kt CO₂ eq), reflecting lower road transport emissions, and the Electricity sector (-33.3 kt CO₂ eq), reflecting increased renewable generation and electricity imports alongside reduced non-renewable generation. These decreases were partially offset by increases in the Agriculture sector (+25.6 kt CO₂ eq) and the Industry sector (+8.1 kt CO₂ eq).
