Food Waste: Behavioural Insights Research
Behavioural insight is a foundation of the EPA’s Circular Economy Programme, providing evidence to inform policy, behavioural change interventions and awareness campaigns.
Food waste remains a significant environmental and economic challenge. Understanding consumer attitudes, behaviours and decision-making around food purchasing, storage and management helps identify opportunities to prevent food waste and support more sustainable habits.
The EPA contracted Ipsos B&A to carry out the following studies:
- National attitudes and behaviours surveys; 2024, 2022, 2021, 2020
- Ethnographic digital diary study 2023
- Food Waste Attitudes and Behaviours in Ireland: Consumer Insights for Grocery Retailers
