Project Abstract

Ireland has a significant amount of information on a wide range of climate variables and predictions and a growing understanding of the expected impacts of climate change. However, much of this data and information is held by a wide range of organisations, operating in different sectors and with different policy agendas to fulfil, therefore making it difficult for decision-makers and citizens to access and use. The goal of this project is to develop a Climate Information Platform for Ireland to address these challenges. Taking on board the experiences of other countries, the project aims to develop a ?one stop shop? for climate information that will be strongly driven by user-needs and a specially constituted evaluator network. The Platform will be implemented in a two phase process based on a flexible architectural design, where management of technical risk associated with evolving technologies, standards, and stakeholder needs is key. Data and information will be accessed across a distributed system, following international data exchange protocols and will conform to INSPIRE. The project will also ensure that all stages of the development are communicated and disseminated to key audiences as part of a wider iterative dialogue between platform developers, administrators, data providers and users.
