Project Abstract
The usage and emissions of HFCs, which constitute the majority of F-gas emissions in European countries today, have grown rapidly in recent years as they are the primary substitutes for ozone depleting substances (ODSs), which are being phased-out under the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. Emissions are also increasing from the use of SF6 as insulation and arc-extinguishing medium in electrical equipment. This project will focus on the latest time series: 2005-2012, during which the significant rise in F-Gas emissions will be most prominent. We will also review and revise the earlier time series 1990-2004 and acknowledge that the data availability for these earlier years may not be as comprehensive. Time series consistency will be maintained for the inventory (1990-2012) in line with standard inventory best practices as outlined in the IPPC GPG.
