Project Abstract

Nowadays, pharmaceuticals such as marbofloxacin, irbesartan, phenytoin, ciprofloxacin, sulfamethoxazole, acetaminophen, carbamazepine, triclosan, atrazine, sulfamethoxazole and industrial waste chemicals of toxic heavy metals and organic compounds are discharged to the environment continuously globally. The waste effluents of these chemicals must be treated before discharged to the ecosystem. If happen without treatment, they can get into the human body via different mechanisms and cause savior public health crisis including organ damage, weakening of the immune system, development of allergies, reproductive problems and birth defects, effects on the mental, intellectual or physical development of children, cancer, etc. Therefore, researchers must work collaboratively to prevent the impacts of these harmful emerging chemical pollutants. This proposed research project will therefore focus on the synthesis of emerging nanomaterials for degradation of chemical pollutants into non-toxic forms. The main research outputs of this proposed project work will be disclosed to the communities, researchers, and different industries so that they can use them for the functions of their interest including for treatment of wastewater containing the aforementioned poisonous emerging chemical pollutants. Pursuing my postdoc under DOROTHY COFUND will enable me to form in-depth collaborations with my supervisors and those in the partner industrial companies/institutions or elsewhere. These will have the potential impacts to scale up my own research skills towards being a fully experienced and independent researcher. As a longlasting plan, I have a vision to establish my own research group focusing on emerging nanomaterials and nanocomposites for advanced environmental applications. Since the emerging chemical pollutants are the concerns of the society, I will design competitive projects in collaboration with Dr. Witold, prof. Urška, experts from academic and non-academic institutions, and elsewhere; and conduct advanced research applications for the well-being of society via reducing the 1. Excellence impacts of these chronic chemicals on public health
