Project Abstract

Currently, no integrated high resolution spatial and temporal model at a country level is published, so while the project will draw on the existing published research, it will need independent research to achieve the objectives. Development of models for spatial and temporal distribution of emissions is to a very high extent country-specific and will therefore require research into the specific Irish conditions. This project will develop a model for distribution of the emissions from Ireland at a high spatial and temporal resolution. The model will be developed at a detailed level concerning sectoral, spatial and temporal resolution, and will draw on the best applicable spatial data available for Ireland. The integrated model will be closely linked to the official Irish emission inventory to ensure easy updating for the periodic reporting to the Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution, but also to facilitate improvements to the model later on. The research will serve not only to fulfil the requirements for Irelands official reporting to the Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution, but will also provide a strong foundation for improvement of air pollution modelling and assessment of human exposure.
