Project Abstract

The economic benefits are associated with a reduced cost of waste disposal and reduced purchases of electricity and water. The environmental benefits are substantial as the demonstration of alternative compostable packaging will be demonstrated to our broad customer base. As waste currently runs at approximately 4500 tonnes any reduction in excess of 20% will improve the economic and environmental performance of the company. It is planned to reduce waste to landfill by 75% in participating stores. A waste/energy audit can achieve 15% savings in electricity consumption without major investment. Promotion of the project via other stores and EPA etc.
