“Mind the Environment – check the facts” -website section to help plan and programme-makers to protect the environment

Date released: May 18 2005

Mind the environment and check the facts: this is the message to plan and programme makers as the EPA launches its new website section to provide detailed information on the environment.

“Environmental information is essential if national and local plans and programmes are to fully address environmental protection.  The new EPA Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) website will help planners and programme makers across a wide variety of sectors to provide for environmental protection in compliance with the SEA Directive”, said Dr Gerry Byrne, EPA Programme Manager.

Under the new SEA Directive, an environmental assessment will be required when national or local plans and programmes are being developed.  Facilitating input from the public is also necessary.  The new website section will help both plan/programme makers and the general public in their search for relevant environmental information.
