The Supervalu Tidy Towns

The Supervalu Tidy Towns is an annual competition that awards communities for improving their local area by honouring the tidiest and most inviting towns. As part of this competition, the EPA aims to recognise communities that have undertaken activities that support and promote the values of circular economy through the Circular Economy Award. In a circular economy, we value resources and products and try to prevent wasting them and to keep them in use for longer. Reuse, repair, sharing of products, waste prevention (e.g. food waste prevention, plastic or other packaging waste prevention) are circular economy activities and may be activities that Tidy Towns groups have led or supported in their community. Through recognising these communities, the EPA hopes to encourage and raise awareness of practical examples of circular economy actions in our communities.

The 2026 SuperValu TidyTowns Competition is now accepting applications. The closing date for applications is the 8th June 2026. The application forms and additional information are available on the TidyTowns website.

EPA Sponsorship of the SuperValu Tidy Towns Special Award

The EPA has sponsored a SuperValu TidyTowns Special Award since 2014 and has recognised the efforts of almost 50 local community groups across Ireland to reduce waste and promote the circular economy over this time. The award transitioned from a focus on Waste Prevention to the Circular Economy in 2021 to reflect the need to shift towards a more circular economy and society for all. 

The Circular Economy Award aims to raise awareness of the circular economy and circular economy principles across all kinds of community groups in Ireland and showcase how these principles can be implemented in everyday lives across a range of activities, actions, and initiatives. The Award continues to include waste prevention efforts, as well as repairing, swapping, upcycling, exchanging, restoring, and reusing. The Award has been won by many different community groups and organisations across the country.
