Natural sources of radioactivity account for 86% of all radiation exposures in Ireland. Man-made or artificial sources contribute approximately 14% and are dominated by the beneficial use of radiation in medicine. Doses from other artificial sources such as Sellafield, Chernobyl, occupational exposure, etc., account for less than 1%.
