Optical Radiation

Optical radiation comprises infrared (IR), visible light (including laser), and ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The EPA has no responsibility for public exposure to optical radiation.

Exposure to artificial UV radiation used by sunbeds is regulated in Ireland by the Sunbeds (Public Health) Act 2014. The Department of Health is responsible for policy and the Health Service Executive (HSE)  is the statutory enforcement authority with responsibility for monitoring compliance and enforcement of this legislation.
