The EPA Site Investigations Matrices are designed as a guidance tool to help plan and scope Phase 1 and Phase 2 site investigation works for unregulated waste disposal sites as required in Chapters 4 & 5 of the EPA’s “Code of Practice: Environmental Risk Assessment for Unregulated Waste Disposal Sites” (COP) . The matrices are in tabular format and are designed to look at the various Source Pathway Receptor (S-P-R) linkages identified for individual waste sites.
To facilitate use, it is recommended that they be printed in colour as an A3 document.
The terminology in the matrix is consistent with that used in the COP. Therefore one should always read and get familiar with the COP document first and, where necessary, involve professionals experienced in landfill site investigations.
Matrix 1: Guidance for preliminary and exploratory investigations for all unregulated waste disposal sites.
