Drinking water audits

The EPA carries out audits at water treatment plants:

To ensure that public water supplies comply with the Drinking Water Regulations
In response to drinking water quality failures or incidents
To check that remedial actions have been carried out by Irish Water
As spot checks on supplies that have not had any water quality failures

During an audit the EPA Inspector may look at some or all aspects of a water supply, including:

Protection of the water source
Treatment processes
Treatment capacity
Storage of treated water
Distribution network

The EPA issues an audit report to Irish Water following each audit, setting out its findings and recommendations.
