EPA Spatial Data Inventory, November 2025
Year: 2025
This inventory of spatial information sources can be used to help in preparing SEA Environmental Reports and the associated environmental assessments with up to date environmental information. Data sources/links include air quality, climate, biodiversity, flora, fauna, geology, soils, hydrology and water quality. This inventory was last updated in November 2025 and may not be exhaustive. (See Disclaimer below for terms of use).

This is the latest EPA report on quarterly greenhouse gas emissions for Ireland to support more frequent monitoring of national and sectoral progress on climate action. This series complements the national greenhouse gas inventory and projections prepared annually by the EPA. Emissions in Quarter 2 2025 were down by 3.2% on the same quarter last year. This was mainly driven by decreases in the Buildings sector (-296 kt CO₂ eq) driven by reduced demand for heating, and the Agriculture sector (-117 kt CO₂ eq) driven by decreased fertiliser sales.

This report provides summary information on the status of our rivers, lakes, estuaries, coastal waters (known collectively as surface waters) and groundwaters. It is based on information collected over a 6-year period from 2019 to 2024 under Ireland’s national water quality monitoring programme from over 4,000 surface water bodies and 514 groundwater bodies. It highlights changes in the condition of these waters, identifies the main problems causing water quality issues and sets out what actions need to be taken to protect this important national resource.
Year: 2025
This report sets out the latest assessment of the health of Ireland’s rivers, lakes, canals, groundwaters, transitional (estuaries) and coastal waters.
Year: 2025
This document forms part of submissions we make on local authority land-use plans undergoing strategic environmental assessments (SEA). It includes: key environmental recommendations to consider; information on recently published relevant EPA reports; links to useful environmental resources for local authorities carrying out SEA of land-use plans. It is updated regularly and was last uploaded on 14 July 2025.
Hydrology bulletin on rainfall, river flows, lake levels, groundwater levels and spring outflows for September 2025, October 2025
Year: 2025
Hydrology Summary Bulletin outlining the flows in rivers, rainfall, lake and turlough levels, groundwater levels and spring outflows of over 300 stations across Ireland for the month.
Year: 2025
This report provides an overview of urban wastewater treatment in Ireland during 2024. It outlines the key issues that Uisce Éireann must address to protect our environment from the harmful effects of wastewater discharges.
Year: 2025
EPA investigation of discharges to water from EPA-regulated sites in the Blackwater Catchment July / August 2025
Year: 2025
Air quality in Ireland is generally good and was compliant with 2024 air quality standards, meeting all EU legal requirements. It will be more challenging for Ireland to meet new and more stringent air quality limits that will come into force from 2030. We need to do more to protect our clean air in towns and cities across Ireland.
Year: 2025
The purpose of this report is to provide an early insight into nitrogen concentrations in major rivers in Ireland, in advance of the more comprehensive annual water quality assessments.
Hydrology bulletin on rainfall, river flows, lake levels, groundwater levels and spring outflows for August 2025, September 2025
Year: 2025
Hydrology Summary Bulletin outlining the flows in rivers, rainfall, lake and turlough levels, groundwater levels and spring outflows of over 300 stations across Ireland for the month

Under Key Action 19.3 of the National Hazardous Waste Management Plan 2021 – 2027, the EPA is required to conduct a mid-term review of the NHWMP and update actions for the second half of the plan. This report presents a mid-term evaluation of the Plan and incorporates the third annual report, relating to activities in 2024.

National Focal Points (NFPs) are the primary national contact points in the Eionet and the EEA works closely with them. Typically based in a national environment agency or environment ministry an NFP is appointed by their EEA member country. The Environmental Protection Agency acts as the NFP for Ireland, coordinating environmental information exchange with the EEA and others. In its NFP role, the EPA maintains and develops the national network. It also facilitates and coordinates contacts, requests and deliveries between national and EU level. The summary booklet was updated in August 2025.

This report outlines three updates to the evidence base to support targeting the right measures in the right place to improve water quality. The first update is the assessment of the catchments that need nitrogen load reductions to support good estuarine ecological conditions which incorporates more recent monitoring data since first reported by the EPA in 2021, and some improvements to the assessment methodology. The second update follows the same methodology to look back at changes in the reductions required over a 35-year period since 1990 at representative monitoring stations. Thirdly, the on-line mapping tool for the Farm and Landscape measures for Agriculture (FLAG) map (previously the Targeting Agricultural Measures map) has also been updated with monitoring data up to 2024, along with the other multiple lines of evidence used to indicate where agricultural measures are needed to restore water quality.
