EC REFIT Evaluation of the SEA Directive

The European Commission commenced a REFIT evaluation of the SEA Directive in late-2017. It is designed to assess the performance of the Directive and ensure that it is "fit for purpose".

This evaluation exercise aims to identify how or why the Directive is/is not working. It also looks to identify issues arising in the existing legal provisions of the directive. The evaluation is being performed against five criteria:

  •  effectiveness
  •  efficiency
  •  relevance
  •  coherence and
  •  EU-added value.

The final report on findings of the REFIT evaluation is expected to be published in 2019.
