EPA prosecutes Dunbia (Slane) Ltd

On 24th February 2017 the Environmental Protection Agency prosecuted Dunbia (Slane) Ltd at Navan District Court, Co Meath.

The company pleaded guilty to:

  • Failure to ensure that emissions took place as set out in the licence, namely that an unauthorised emission of untreated slaughter process effluent was discharged to a surface water drain from the installation.
  • Failure to notify the Agency as soon as practicable after the occurrence of an incident with the potential for environmental contamination of surface water or groundwater, or posing an environmental threat to air or land, or requiring an emergency response by the Local Authority.

On hearing details of the offences Judge Malone convicted the company and imposed fines totalling €5000. The Agency costs were also awarded.
